Watson Batty’s brief was to redevelop a brown field site on Oliver Road, Thurrock, to accommodate the 37,500 sq ft cross docking facility, vehicle service workshop and associated ancillary accommodation. Much of the existing building on the site was demolished, with part of the structural frame being retained for refurbishment. The wall and roof cladding fixed onto the existing structure gives the appearance of a new build. Additional ancillary accommodation was provided in modular buildings constructed off site in order to meet tight programme times.
