East Thurnscoe.

The purpose of our masterplan commission at East Thurnscoe was to develop a long-term strategy for this former mining community. This included developing a spatial strategy and identifying the necessary factors to initiate transformational change in the area’s housing market. The masterplan will be an integral part of the Barnsley Area Development Framework.

Prior to proposals being developed, we undertook a number of detailed resident and stakeholder consultations to establish the key issues and aspirations for the area, and carried out area analysis to establish the main problems and positive features as perceived by the residents.

The resulting concepts represent the community’s wishes and creat opportunities beyond the residential areas, such as the new urban park and new village square.
