Rashcliffe, Huddersfield.
The Rashcliffe schemes replace unpopular social housing in the form of bungalows, low rise maisonette blocks and high rise apartment blocks. They comprise 83 new build family homes using a timber frame construction method to speed up the construction time and help the dwellings achieve an EcoHomes Good Rating.
A precast piling and ground beam system was used due to poor ground conditions. The scheme was designed to fulfil Housing Corporation (now HCA) Scheme Development Standards criteria, meet the requirements of Part M of the Building Regulations and accommodate cultural differences for the target Muslim residents. The schemes have benefited local communities through improved daily living standards and a better overall environment.
