More reasons to shop in Leyland thanks to Watson Batty.

After years of anticipation, the new Morrisons store in Leyland is now complete and the company chairman himself, Ken Morrison, was on hand at the official opening to ceremoniously cut the ribbon.

The Olympian Way branch is the 10th Morrisons supermarket to be designed by Watson Batty in the last 20 years and its successful completion has helped to further strengthen the positive working relationship between the two companies. In addition to the 83,600 sq ft store, the project also features a petrol filling station, car wash facility and a new pedestrian link, which has been created to improve access to the town centre.

Located on the site of former Leyland Bus Factory, a number of unique design features that pay homage to the history of the area have also been included, from a selection of local photography displayed throughout the store to the commissioning of a life-size bronze statue of a factory worker in the car park. Watson Batty also conducted several public presentations throughout the planning and design stages to ensure that the local community was both involved and happy with the scheme.

The retail development further comprises new Homebase and Argos stores, which in order to create a cohesive appearance were also designed by Watson Batty.
