Watson Batty checks in for luxury hotel developments.

Watson Batty has been appointed to develop two prestigious hotels schemes at Ruthin Castle Hotel in Denbighshire, Wales and the Chevin Country Park Hotel in Otley, Yorkshire.

The Ruthin Castle Hotel project comprises two different schemes - the creation of a new luxury health and leisure spa facility and a development of 15 retreat style woodland lodges. As the hotel forms part of the listed castle building and has Ancient Scheduled Monument status, Watson Batty had to submit detailed drawings and design statements in order to meet the strict planning criteria, as well the requirements of Cadw, the Welsh assembly government's historic environment service. The new development will therefore be constructed using such natural materials as sandstone with limestone details and Welsh slate, and will be of a scale to remain in keeping with the historical significance of the site. The new lodges, which are located in existing woodland, will also be sympathetically designed to complement the area.

Watson Batty will also be undertaking works at the Chevin Country Park Hotel in Otley, which has recently purchased by Scottish chain Crerar Hotels. Watson Batty have been involved with the site for over three years, securing a planning permission in the green belt location for the previous owners that included a new function suite, health spa re-development and a further 21 new woodland lodges. The current project will comprise various renovation works to the bar, restaurant and conservatory areas as well as the main entrance. The remaining development will be undertaken over the forthcoming months, designed to complement the rural location of the hotel.

The Ruthin Castle Hotel and Chevin County Park Hotel developments will commence on site during the summer with completion later this year.
