St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary School.

Watson Batty Architects have given the school a new modern identity through the provision of a new entrance and administration spaces. The additional area is designed around the needs of the school, replacing small and unusable spaces by making the best use out of a very small site without losing any external amenity.

The design solution reflects the schools eco status; insulated concrete formwork in flowing curves finished with larch cladding with the building sliced in half with a taller glazed section of Velfac windows.

The ‘U’ value of the building is far in excess of Building Regulations, through the use of the formwork and careful choice of roofing and slab specifications.

The large curved glazed roof projection creates a stack effect, and allows light into the heart of the reception and administration areas. The new extension is naturally ventilated with trace background heating.

The new extension achieves the objectives of providing a new identity for the school, much needed additional space, together with an uplifting and inspirational appearance.

Good things come in small packages, and this is no exception.
